Welcome to Grade 8 Science. 

This course is made up of 4 Units which include:

  •         Unit 1 --Water and The Oceans
  •            Unit 2 -- Fluids
  •            Unit 3 -- Optics
  •            Unit 4 -- Cells and Systems

~Please sign and return tests on chapter 10

~ Bring an extra duo tang for scientific literacy

~ Questions page 423 #s 1,2,3 and 4 are to be completed for next class as well as page 425 #s 1,2,3,4 and 8 

~ Chapter 11 review assignment is due on Friday, May 18

May 1:

~ Worked on review in class today !

~ Term quiz on 11-20 will be Thursday, May 3

~ Bring a ruler to next class to complete the lab we will be doing !!

~ Test date for Chapter 10 has been set for May 10

April 26:

~All terms are due on Tuesday, May 1

~Term quiz on terms 1-10 is Tuesday

~ Foldable needs to be finished and passed in on May 1

~Complete chapter review for chapter 10 numbers 1-10 for Tuesday, May 1

~ Term quiz on terms 11-20 will be on Thursday, May 3

~Review sheet for chapter 10 numbers 11-20 need to be completed for May 3 as well!

 

April 25:

~ students are to bring materials in to complete the characteristics of life foldable for next class which will be tomorrow April 26.

April 24:

~Students are reminded to bring in all materials that they may have to add to their duo tangs for Unit 3 on Optics!

~ Terms for Unit 4 were distributed and must be completed by April 30 !

~Chpt 3 review was passed out and will be corrected on Friday --we will look at all the material for unit 1 then in preparation for the test!!

Nov.16:

~ Students need to bring science fair portfolios to next class!

Nov.14:

~Students are working on an inclass worksheet! Next quiz date for terms is 14-27 on Nov.21.

~ Students need to bring in prewriting materials for the Science Fair ( Portfolios) so that we can make sure that your progress to date is where it should be!

October 27:

~ We worked on the question portion of the review sheet today ! Students are reminded to work on teh completion section of the review -this will be corrected on Tuesday of next week!!

~ Test is Friday, Nov 4!

October 26:

~STSE Assignments were returned --please sign and return to your portfolio.

~ Chapter 2 was completed today and students received the review sheet for this chapter.  Students are expected to have completed the completion section for November 1.  We will work on the questions in class!

Oct. 25:

While there was no class today for 8-1 the test date was announced to students and the test will be on Nov. 4

October 24: 

~We corrected homework from last day --Questions page 47.

~ Discussed Upwellings; finished reading in text and assigned on page 63 questions 1,2,3,4,5,9& 10 for Wednesday.

~ Students need to remember that the foldable we started and worked on in class on Friday past is due Wednesday, Oct.26!!

October 21 :

~Questions page 47 #s 1-4 are due on Monday !!

~ We completed as a class questions 2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and 10 on page 51!!

~ Foldable is due on Surface Currents vs. Deep Currents on Wednesday, Oct. 26

~ Include the following in the foldable:

  * Cover page with titles

  * Inside Cover-

     --Define each type of current.

    --Factors that affect each of the currents and a description of each

  --Other ??? 

* Remember to be creative, neat, colorful and keep the information factual and relevant!!

October19:

~Science Fair portfolios were handed out yesterday and we discussed how this year's science fair would work !! 

~Science Fair will be on November 22nd, 2011

~Students will be given some class time to work on the project and students are more than welcome to stay after school next week on the following days to work on their projects ( rides must be prearranged for student pickup)                                     Monday---3-4:15pm

                                      Wednesday--3-4:15pm

                                      Thursday -- 3-4:15 pm

~Students are encouraged to get together with their partners and to get started on their projects !!

Duo tangs for chapter 1 have been collected .

Sept. 27:

~ Quiz 3 on terms 21-32 was completed and will be returned tomorrow!

~ Review sheet was worked on during this class and once again students werew reminded of the  TEST DATE for chapter 1-- October 3, 2011.

Questions 1-8 on review will be corrected on Thursday of this week.

Questions 9-16 will be corrected on Friday of this week!!

 

Sept. 26:

~ Labs were completed and passed in ( a page of questions was handed out today in class as part of the conclusion for the lab)

~Quizzes were returned and must be signed and put in blue duo tang

~ Review sheet was given out and TEST DATE for chapter 1 is October 3, 2011.

Sept. 21:
